Archival footage is film or video recorded in the past and preserved so it can be used again in new productions. In music documentaries it might include old concerts, television appearances and backstage moments. The MGM+ docuseries New Wave uses archival footage of 1980s performers in their prime, shown alongside fresh interviews with those same artists today. The contrast lets viewers see how the stars of new wave looked, sounded and have changed over forty years.
