A gun salute is a ceremonial firing of artillery rounds to honor a person or occasion, with the number of rounds encoding the level of respect. At the October 2026 Windsor welcome for Oman’s Sultan, royal salutes were fired simultaneously in the Home Park at Windsor and at the Tower of London — twin volleys linking crown and capital in a single, thunderous compliment to the visiting head of state.
