Multiple sclerosis, often shortened to MS, is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. The damage disrupts communication between the brain and the body, causing symptoms that can include fatigue, balance problems, numbness, vision trouble and difficulty walking. Symptoms vary enormously from person to person and can flare and fade over time. Selma Blair was diagnosed with MS in 2018, and managing the condition has been central to her life and work ever since.
