Nickname

A nickname is an informal, affectionate name given to a person in place of, or alongside, their full given name, often created by family in childhood. Nicknames can come from shortening a name, a personality trait, a family joke or a sound a baby makes. Many stick for life, becoming the name friends use daily while the formal name appears only on documents.
