Pulmonary Embolism

A blockage in one of the arteries of the lungs, usually caused by a blood clot that traveled from elsewhere in the body, most often the legs. A pulmonary embolism can reduce oxygen levels, strain the heart and become fatal without prompt care. When clots appear in both lungs, doctors describe the condition as bilateral. Treatment centers on blood thinners and close clinical monitoring.
