A cornerback is a defensive back in American football whose main job is covering wide receivers and preventing pass completions. Cornerbacks need exceptional speed, agility and anticipation, often playing on an island against the opponent’s best athletes. The position is among the most demanding in the sport, and elite cornerbacks can transform an entire defense by erasing one side of the field.
