Diplomatic Protocol

Diplomatic protocol is the set of formal rules governing how officials from different countries greet, seat, address and host one another at official events. Details such as flag placement, order of speakers and forms of address signal respect and rank. Protocol exists to prevent accidental offence, because in international relations a small slight can be read as a deliberate political message.
