"I Will Always Love You" is a song written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973 as a farewell to her mentor and duet partner Porter Wagoner — a goodbye, not a romance. It topped the country chart twice for Parton and became a global phenomenon when Whitney Houston's version anchored the 1992 film The Bodyguard, becoming the best-selling single by a woman. Parton famously refused to surrender half its publishing to record it with Elvis Presley.

She and Miley Cyrus sang it together to ring in 2023 on Cyrus' New Year's Eve special.
