The Irish State Coach is considered the grandest of the British sovereign’s carriages, traditionally used for the most ceremonial journeys, including the State Opening of Parliament. During the October 2026 state visit, King Charles rode in it with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman at the head of the procession to Windsor Castle — the place of maximum honour, reserved for the sovereign and the visiting head of state.
