Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging, usually shortened to MRI, is a medical scanning technique that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the brain, spinal cord and other soft tissues. It involves no radiation and is essential in diagnosing neurological disease, because it can reveal scars, inflammation and lesions invisible on other scans. Patients lie still inside the scanner while images are captured in sequences.
