A mononym is a name made of a single word — the kind of billing reserved for stars so famous that one name is ID enough: Madonna, Beyoncé, Adele, Cher, Prince, Elvis. Adopting one is both a branding move and a statement of arrival.

In 2026, Miley Cyrus joined the club, releasing her 10th studio album Bass Persuades under simply "Miley." Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, cheered the decision by naming the company she now keeps — Dolly, Cher, Elvis, Prince — calling it the natural progression of an iconic superstar.
