New Wave

New Wave

New wave is the colorful, catchy style of rock and pop music that grew out of late-1970s punk and ruled the charts through the 1980s. It mixed punk energy with synthesizers, dance beats, sharp fashion and art-school ideas. Artists such as Billy Idol, Boy George and Belinda Carlisle made it famous worldwide. The new MGM+ docuseries New Wave tells how this sound moved from tiny clubs into the mainstream between 1977 and 1987.
