pageantry

pageantry

Pageantry is the ceremonial spectacle — processions, uniforms, music, ritual — with which states display continuity and honor. Britain’s version, refined over centuries, is a national speciality and a diplomatic instrument: it makes guests feel uniquely valued. The October 2026 Windsor welcome for Oman’s Sultan, with its dais, carriages and double gun salute, showed pageantry doing real political work: turning a partnership into a celebration no communiqué could match.
