psychological horror

A horror subgenre that frightens through the mind rather than the body. Instead of monsters and jump scares, psychological horror uses unreliable narrators, creeping paranoia and distorted reality to unsettle viewers. The fear comes from doubting what is real, which is why films about grief, obsession or identity crises so often land in this territory.
