The Stanley Brothers — Carter and Ralph Stanley — were Virginia bluegrass pioneers whose high harmonies and songs like ‘Man of Constant Sorrow’ helped define the genre from the 1940s onward. They were honored in the Country Music Hall of Fame’s 2026 class alongside Tim McGraw. Their inclusion beside a modern stadium star illustrated the Hall’s circle: Appalachian tradition and contemporary country formally sharing one stage and one night.
