Post-punk is the adventurous music that followed the first punk explosion of the late 1970s. Post-punk musicians kept punk’s do-it-yourself energy but experimented with synthesizers, dance rhythms, funk and art-school ideas, opening the door to new wave. Bands took the music in darker, dancier and more melodic directions, producing some of the most influential records ever made. The MGM+ docuseries New Wave traces how post-punk grew from club scenes into global pop.
