Generation X was the London punk band in which Billy Idol first found fame in the late 1970s. Formed in 1976 and named after a sociology book, the band mixed punk speed with genuine pop melody, scoring British hits including King Rocker and Valley of the Dolls. Idol left for a solo career in America, but Generation X remains the starting point of his story, retold in the MGM+ docuseries New Wave.
