Relapse and remission describe the rhythm of many multiple sclerosis cases: periods when new symptoms appear or old ones sharply worsen, followed by periods when symptoms partially or fully ease. The most common form of MS is literally called relapsing-remitting. This cycle is part of why managing the condition is, in the words of a source close to Selma Blair, ‘a lot to handle’ — good weeks and bad weeks can arrive with little warning.
