The room where it happens has a new show coming. Warriors, the stage musical co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, is officially heading to Broadway, and the production has announced the star-studded cast that will bring its turf-war New York to life. Performances begin with previews on March 9, 2027, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with an official opening night set for April 8, 2027. It is Miranda’s first new original Broadway musical since Hamilton changed the theatre world — and, in a fitting touch, several of the performers who helped build that phenomenon are coming back to build this one with him.
A Cast Built From the Album
The initial company mixes returning voices from the show’s hit concept album with fresh recruits. Jasmine Cephas Jones leads the announcement as Swan, reprising the role she originated on the album, while Amber Gray returns as Ajax and Sasha Hutchings is back as Cowgirl. Also reprising their album performances are Aneesa Folds as Cleon, Gizel Jiménez as Rembrandt, Kenita R. Miller as Cochise and Julia Harriman as Mercy. New to the gang are Sasha Allen, who takes on the pivotal role of Cyrus — the charismatic figure whose call to the city’s gangs sets the story in motion — and Jaci Calderon as Fox, with Casey Likes and Donald Webber Jr. completing the principal lineup. For listeners who wore out the album, the casting is a promise: the sound they fell for is, in large part, the sound they will hear in the theatre.

Gray’s Ajax, all swagger and volatility, was one of the album’s breakout turns, and her return signals that the stage version intends to keep the recording’s electricity rather than sand it down. Between the reprisals and the new arrivals, the company reads like a deliberate bridge between the Warriors that exists in fans’ headphones and the one now being built for the stage.

For theatre fans, the sweetest detail in the announcement is the family reunion woven through it. Cephas Jones originated the dual role of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in Hamilton. Hutchings was a member of Hamilton’s original Broadway company. Harriman played Eliza on tour and in the production’s celebrated Puerto Rico engagement. And Webber Jr. has worn the waistcoat of Aaron Burr. Miranda has always worked like a bandleader, gathering a trusted company and writing to their strengths, and Warriors is the clearest example yet: a score built around specific voices, carried to the stage by the very singers who first gave those voices life. “We’re having the time of our lives making Warriors,” Miranda and Davis said in a joint statement — and the casting suggests they mean it literally, making it with their friends.
The Album That Started It All
Long before there was a theatre booking, there was the Concept Album. Released in October 2024, the Warriors recording — executive produced by Nas and produced by Mike Elizondo — debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Compilation Albums chart and racked up 5.5 million global streams in its first week. It played less like a demo than like a finished work of theatre for the ears: a sung-through journey across a stylised, dangerous New York, performed by a cast of stage and recording stars. That album did two jobs at once. It proved there was an audience hungry for the material, and it gave Miranda and Davis a laboratory in which to test every song before a single set was built. The Broadway production now inherits a score that has already been heard, loved and memorised by its first audience.
Dates for the Diary
The production is directed by Jenny Koons, with Miranda’s longtime collaborator Andy Blankenbuehler serving as co-director and choreographer — a credit that promises the show’s gangland New York will move as vividly as it sings. Tickets are already in motion: a presale began Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. ET, with the general on-sale following on Thursday, Oct. 22. In a nod to the story’s 1979 roots, the production will offer lottery tickets that include seats in the first two rows priced at $19.79, available from the first preview on March 9. Mark the dates. Broadway has been waiting a decade for Miranda’s next original musical — and now it knows exactly when the wait ends.

The production is also making sure the gangs of New York can afford to see a show about New York. Lottery tickets for seats in the first two rows of the Lunt-Fontanne will cost just $19.79 — a price chosen, with a grin, for the year the film was released. It is the kind of detail Miranda’s productions have become known for: a blockbuster that keeps a door open for the students and superfans who built the word of mouth in the first place. For a musical about loyalty, territory and belonging, the gesture is more than marketing. It is the show’s values, priced in.
The Album Cast Steps Onstage
What gives the announcement its unusual confidence is continuity. Broadway castings are usually a collage of strangers; this one is substantially the company that already recorded the show. Cephas Jones, Siddle, Gray, Harriman, Hutchings and Clarke all move from the album’s track listing to the stage bill, carrying performances they have been refining in fans’ headphones for two years. By opening night, thousands in the audience will know every bar they sing. That is a new kind of preview period — one conducted in public, on streaming services, long before the first rehearsal — and Warriors arrives at the Lunt-Fontanne with its audience already fluent in the material.
Dates for the diary: previews begin March 9, 2027, with the official opening on April 8 — a spring launch that places Warriors at the heart of the Broadway season, when critics, awards voters and theatre tourists all descend on the district at once. For Miranda, whose premieres have a habit of becoming civic events, it is familiar territory. For the company, many of whom have carried these roles since a recording studio session in 2024, it is the finish line of a very long first act.
