John Mulaney Set to Host “Saturday Night Live” for 7th Time and Druski Becomes First Content Creator to Land Hosting Gig

Saturday Night Live announced its next slate of hosts on Thursday, Oct. 22, and the lineup manages to honor the show’s past and its future in the same breath. John Mulaney, 44, will return to Studio 8H to host for the seventh time on Nov. 14 — while comedian Druski, 32, will make his hosting debut on Nov. 7, becoming the first content creator ever to land the gig in the show’s 50-plus-year history.

Druski will host the Nov. 7 episode with musical guest The Strokes, who have performed on the show four times since 2002. Mulaney’s Nov. 14 episode will feature music from Phoebe Bridgers, who performed on SNL solo in 2021 and later returned as a member of Boygenius. The two additions round out a stretch of the season that begins with the Halloween episode on Oct. 31, hosted by Obsession breakout actress Inde Navarrette with musical guest Gracie Abrams — a pairing first announced on Sept. 9, when SNL revealed previous hosts Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson and Shane Gillis. Musical guests so far this season have included Rosalía, KATSEYE, Gracie Abrams and Turnstile.

Mulaney’s Seventh Monologue

Mulaney’s seventh hosting gig comes two years after his last SNL monologue in November 2024. He first hosted in April 2018, and has since hosted in March 2019, February 2020, October 2020 and February 2022 — a rhythm of returns that has made him one of the defining guest hosts of the modern era, all the more remarkable for a performer who began at the show as a writer. He still has a ways to go to break the all-time record: Alec Baldwin holds it with 17 appearances as host. But seven puts Mulaney in rare company, and his episodes have a reputation among fans as some of the most reliably sharp hours of sketch comedy the show produces.

Druski’s Historic First

Druski’s booking is the headline that will travel furthest. In more than five decades, SNL hosts have included film stars, athletes, politicians, musicians and stand-ups — but never someone whose fame was built as a content creator, performing for an audience that found him on their phones. His debut arrives weeks after he was announced as Chicago co-host for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2027, another legacy television institution betting on a creator-era comedian to carry a live broadcast. Live, notably, is the operative word: whatever else changes about comedy, Studio 8H still demands a performer who can hold a room in real time, and Nov. 7 will be Druski’s examination in front of the toughest audience in television.

The season resumes on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC, streaming on Peacock, with Navarrette and Abrams taking the Halloween slot. Then comes Druski’s historic debut on Nov. 7, and Mulaney’s seventh turn on Nov. 14. Three Saturdays, three very different answers to the question of who gets to host the most storied stage in American comedy: a breakout film actress, the first creator ever handed the keys, and a former writer coming home for the seventh time. That range is not an accident. It is the show, at 50-plus years old, explaining itself.

The announcement also completes a picture of the season’s early shape. SNL first revealed its opening hosts on Sept. 9 — Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson and Shane Gillis — with musical guests including Rosalía, KATSEYE and Turnstile. The Oct. 22 additions extend that logic: pair a trusted alumnus with a historic first, book musical guests with their own SNL histories, and let the Halloween episode bridge the two announcements. Navarrette’s Oct. 31 episode, with Gracie Abrams, had already been announced; Druski and Mulaney now give the season its November spine.

For Mulaney, the Nov. 14 date lands almost exactly two years after his November 2024 monologue — close enough to feel like a tradition forming. His hosting résumé now reads like a metronome: April 2018, March 2019, February 2020, October 2020, February 2022, November 2024, and now November 2026. Seven appearances in under nine years is a pace few hosts in the show’s history have sustained, and it has happened while Mulaney’s own career — he is billed in the announcement as the Madden star — has only grown.

Druski’s side of the ledger is shorter and, in its way, louder. One announcement, two legacy institutions: SNL on Nov. 7 and the Chicago co-host chair for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2027. Between them sits the same wager — that a performer who learned comedy in front of a phone camera can command the oldest rooms in television, live. Nov. 7 is when the first half of that wager pays out, one way or the other, at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

The musical pairings deserve a footnote of their own, because both carry history into their episodes. The Strokes’ Nov. 7 performance alongside Druski will be the band’s fifth on the show, in a line stretching back to 2002 — meaning the first creator host will be backed by one of the most returning musical acts in SNL history. Bridgers, opposite Mulaney on Nov. 14, has the mirror-image résumé: a solo performance in 2021, then a return as a member of Boygenius, and now a third appearance. Even the season’s earlier bookings — Rosalía, KATSEYE, Turnstile and Gracie Abrams, who performs on the Oct. 31 Halloween episode hosted by Inde Navarrette — follow the same pattern of new names standing on well-worn boards.

That balance is really the story of the Oct. 22 announcement. Legitimacy on SNL used to flow in one direction, from the show to the host. This lineup suggests it now flows both ways: the show certifies Druski as its first creator host, and Druski’s audience — enormous, young and raised on a different medium entirely — certifies the show as still worth watching live. Mulaney’s seventh monologue, one week later, is the anchor that makes the experiment safe. Tradition on the 14th, history on the 7th, and a Halloween party on the 31st to start it all.
