Kelly Clarkson says a shopping trip to Brooklyn turned into an uncomfortable experience reminiscent of Pretty Woman. In an October 10 post on X, the 44-year-old singer explained that she had driven to a store she was excited to visit, intending to purchase several items. Once inside, however, she claimed she was treated as though the merchandise was beyond her budget.

Clarkson claimed that she had been shopping at Art of Play, a home goods store that specializes in puzzles, games and other toys. The local Brooklyn, New York, boutique has not publicly addressed Clarkson’s accusations. Us reached out for comment.

Clarkson, who has not further discussed her shopping excursion, moved to New York City in 2023 with her two kids: River Rose, 12, and Remington, 10. Clarkson shared her children with her late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock who died in 2025 after a private battle with cancer

“It’s a beautiful city to raise kiddos in because I wasn’t really exposed to different cultures,” Clarkson said on the “La Culturistas” podcast last month of her family’s move. “I wasn’t really exposed to anything like that. Like, I love where I grew up … but I just meant It’s a cool thing for them to have just every color of the rainbow,every color of personality everything.

The Voice coach further noted that her kids have been “really good” lately in the wake of their dad’s death.
