“KPop Demon Hunters” Star EJAE Marries Longtime Fiancé Sam Kim

EJAE is officially a married woman. The singer and songwriter behind Netflix’s animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters has tied the knot with her longtime fiancé, music producer Sam Kim, in a wedding that blended Hollywood glamour with deep family history.

The couple exchanged vows on Oct. 17 in Seoul, South Korea, according to Vogue, in a celebration that put EJAE’s Korean roots front and center. The singer, born Kim Eun-jae, is 34 and currently riding one of the most extraordinary career waves in pop music — and she chose to mark the biggest day of her personal life in the city where her story began.

A Venue Straight Out of Her Childhood

This was no generic ballroom booking. The ceremony took place at Stage 28, a venue with a backstory that could melt even the most jaded celebrity-wedding watcher: EJAE’s grandparents once lived in the house at the venue, and she spent much of her childhood there.

“I spent much of my childhood exploring the garden and walking with my grandfather in the hills behind the house,” the bride explained of the site — which means the singer quite literally walked down the aisle through her own childhood memories.

The celebrations also included a Paebaek — the traditional Korean wedding ceremony in which the couple honors their elders — along with a welcome party at Congdu50, a Korean fusion restaurant, giving guests a full taste of the couple’s heritage across the wedding weekend.

The Dress: Ethereal, With a Twist

For her walk down the aisle, EJAE wore a custom Danielle Frankel creation: a tulle gown with a bubble hem and a strapless neckline. She completed the look with dainty family heirloom jewelry, tying the high-fashion moment back to the family theme that ran through the whole celebration.

The bride had admired the designer for years, drawn to Frankel’s modern — and, in her words, slightly twisted — spin on the classic wedding dress. Her brief for the custom gown was “ethereal, modern, chic, and timeless with a twist,” and by her account, the designer understood the vision from their very first meeting.

An Engagement Kept Quietly Under Wraps

If the wedding feels like it arrived out of nowhere, that is exactly how the couple wanted it. EJAE and Kim got engaged in the fall of 2023 but kept the news almost entirely to themselves for more than two years.

It was only in January 2026 that the singer let fans in on the secret, casually sharing photos of the milestone on Instagram — a blink-and-you-miss-it announcement in keeping with the couple’s low-key style. Even as EJAE’s face and voice conquered the world through KPop Demon Hunters, her relationship stayed refreshingly off-stage.

That privacy is all the more remarkable given the year she has had. KPop Demon Hunters became a full-blown cultural event, its soundtrack dominating charts around the world and its fictional girl group Huntrix — with EJAE as the singing voice of leader Rumi — inspiring everything from sold-out Halloween costumes to a show-stopping live performance of “Golden” at the Academy Awards, where EJAE performed alongside fellow vocal stars Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna.

A Love Story That Started in the Studio

Fittingly for two musicians, this romance began with work. EJAE and Kim first met in 2017, when he was working as a music producer and the pair were set up for a songwriting session. The professional collaboration turned personal, and Kim has been her quiet constant ever since.

Fans of the film have actually heard the couple together without realizing it. While promoting KPop Demon Hunters alongside co-songwriter Mark Sonnenblick, EJAE revealed that the vocal arrangement for the movie’s climactic anthem, “What It Sounds Like,” was recorded in her Brooklyn apartment — with Kim in the room and on the track. His voice is woven into the song’s layers of harmonies and crowd vocals. Listen very closely, she teased, and you can pick him out.

It’s a detail that sums up their partnership: long before the trophies and the red carpets, they were making music together in a Brooklyn apartment, building the sound — and the relationship — that would eventually take over the world.

A Wedding in the Middle of a Golden Year

The timing of the wedding lands like the final scene of a movie about EJAE’s own life. Her song “Golden,” co-written and performed for KPop Demon Hunters, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and anchored a soundtrack that hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The song then swept awards season — winning the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and, at the 98th Academy Awards, the Oscar for Best Original Song. The film itself also won Best Animated Feature, a rare double triumph.

Through that whirlwind, Kim was beside her. Shortly after the Oscar win, EJAE told PEOPLE, as part of its World’s Most Beautiful issue coverage, that having her fiancé at her side kept her “grounded” as her life transformed almost overnight. She admitted, through tears, that she did not think she could have gone through the experience without him, and credited him with making the chaos feel bearable.

At a celebratory press conference in Seoul this spring, she framed the whole journey as traveling “from my bedroom in Brooklyn to standing on the stage at the Academy Awards.” Now, that journey has one more milestone: a wedding in the city of her birth, in a garden filled with family memories, to the man who has been harmonizing with her — on record and in life — since 2017.

Congratulations Pour In

News of the wedding drew an outpouring of affection from fans who have followed EJAE’s improbable rise. Her journey has always invited emotional investment: a former idol trainee who spent almost a decade waiting for a debut that never came, she reinvented herself as a songwriter and then — in her thirties — became the voice of the biggest animated musical on the planet.

That her personal happiness has unfolded in parallel, quietly and on her own terms, has only deepened the goodwill. The couple’s rare official photos together — including their appearances at a Los Angeles press event for the film last November and an event this past March — show a pair visibly at ease, with Kim content to stand half a step behind a spotlight she spent twenty years earning.

Congratulations to the newlyweds.
